Government departments to make all payments above Rs 5000 electronically

The Finance Ministry on Monday said any payment by government departments or ministries above Rs 5,000 should be made electronically, lowering the threshold limit from Rs 10,000.
This move is intended to bring about a complete digitisation of payments, the ministry said in a statement.
All the ministries/departments have been directed to ensure with immediate effect that all payments above Rs. 5,000 to suppliers, contractors, grantee/loanee institutions etc are made by issue of payment advises only. #casansaar (PTI - Indian Express)
