Govt committed to pass Lokpal Bill to curb corruption: Bansal

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has said that the government is committed to pass an effective and powerful Lokpal Bill to curb corruption in the society. Replying to questions at a press conference in New Delhi today, Mr Bansal said, the government wants to pass the Bill during the Budget Session, which began with the President addressing the joint sitting of both the Houses, today. He said the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill 2011 was passed by the Lok Sabha in the winter session. 

However, the amendments moved by members in the Rajya Sabha lapsed with the prorogation of the Upper House.Mr. Bansal said, the ongoing session will have 35 sittings- 15 in the first part before the recess and 20 sittings in the second part before concluding on 22nd of May. Mr Bansal said, the Budget Session will mainly be devoted to the Motion of Thanks on the President's Address and Financial Business relating to Railway and General Budgets for 2012-13. 

However, sufficient time will also be provided for the transaction of essential Legislative and Non-Legislative business during the session. Mr Bansal said, as many as 30 Bills will be introduced during the session. He said 40 Bills including the Finance Bill 2012 will be taken up for consideration and passing. These include the Women Reservation Bill, which was passed by the Rajya Sabha.
