The Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee today said centre is working with states for the implementation of Goods and Services Tax - GST.
Speaking at an investiture ceremony of Central Board of Excise and customs -CBEC, Mr. Mukherjee expressed hope that GST will be implemented very soon. The minister said further efforts are required to meet the target of indirect tax collection in the current fiscal year.
Speaking earlier, Finance Secretary R S Gujral and CBEC chairman S K Goel said they have set a target of achieving nearly four lakh crore rupees indirect tax collection in the current fiscal year. Later, Mr. Mukherjee conferred on 34 persons the Presidential award for meritorius and specially distinguished services.
