Speaking at a BJP party function in Bengaluru, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anant Kumar congratulated Assam for becoming the first state to adopt the constitutional amendment and appealed to other states to follow suit. The bill needs to be adopted by at least 50 per cent of the 29 states in the country to become a law.
The minister said most of the states were in favour of adopting the GST regime. He said GST bill was vital to speed up economic reforms in the country and very important for national development.
Calling it a historical constitutional amendment that was passed unanimously, he claimed that the GST implementation would bring down various taxes, including excise duty, VAT and others, from the current level of 32 per cent by 10-12 per cent. #casansaar
