A Rajkot-based chartered accountant, approved by the government for evaluating firms involved in commodity market, was caught by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) officials for demanding and accepting Rs 1.5 lakh at a five-star hotel in Satellite on Thursday night.
Dilip Patel, a director in Investmentor Commodities Ltd, was approached by Ronak Davda, a partner in RSD and Associates, a Rajkot-based firm on April 5.
Davda's firm is approved government auditor for commodity firms. Davda told Patel that he had studied his firm's turnover and business avenues as per requirements by Forward Markets Commission in Mumbai.
As per his evaluation, Patel's firm would have to pay Rs 6.5 lakh penalty. "Patel agreed to pay him Rs 1.5 lakh for the task. He then approached us with his complaint. Davda called him up from a five-star hotel in Satellite and asked him to come to the lounge. When the transaction took place, in presence of witnesses, we rushed and nabbed him with the bag," said ACB inspector K P Kamariya. (Times of India)
