The intensified drive against service tax evaders is the reason for the increase in number of cases.
The following steps have been taken by the Government to prevent cases of service tax evasion:
- Conducting surveys by the field officers
- Extensive publicity regarding the liability of service tax on various services
- Booking cases against unregistered service providers
- Obtaining information from other Government agencies/departments regarding various service providers/persons liable to pay service tax.
This was stated by Minister of State for Finance, Shri Namo Narain Meena, in written reply to a question in theLok Sabha today.
