The arrest was made after the Government of India brought the evasion of service tax under Criminal Procedure Code, 1973.
The court granted bail to Sudip Das observing that the lawyer of the Union of India could not satisfy whether strictly custodial detention is necessary for interrogation or not.
Further the High Court observed that the offense was bailable at the time it originated. Das has been granted bail with conditions.
He is not allowed to leave the State of West Bengal and has to deposit his passport. Das was released from judicial custody on August 9, 2013.
