Govt launches Dot Bharat Domain

Government has launched a new domain, Dot Bharat in Devanagari Script in New Delhi today.
The aim of the domain is to connect people with social media and provide contents in regional languages especially to those who are not conversant with English.
The domain will initially cover eight languages including Hindi, Bodo, Dogri, Konkani, Maithili, Marathi, Nepali and Sindhi.
It was launched by Communication and Information Technology Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasad said that the domain will provide information to people in their own regional languages which will help promote e - governance.
He added that e-commerce is going to bring in revolutionary changes in the economic activities of rural India which will generate new jobs and business opportunities for all sections of society.
The domain was developed by the joint efforts of National Internet Exchange of India and Centre for Development of Advanced Computing.
