A 22-year-old student pursuing his Chartered Accountancy was found dead in Shakarpur area of East Delhi on Friday.
Police said they received a PCR alert that a man had jumped off the terrace of his building. Accordingly, police began investigating the case as a suicide. But a case of murder was registered based on circumstantial evidence.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar said, "We have registered a case of murder. We have requested that a medical board be constituted for the post-mortem examination."
The man, identified as Sabin Rai, hailing from Nepal, was found dead on top of a car parked below the building. Police said both his wrists and throat were slit.
A police officer said, "The FSL team that examined the spot told us that, prima facie, it appeared to be a case of suicide. According to them, Rai first went to the terrace and slit both his wrists. A broken blade was found on the terrace. Later, he came to his room, took two kitchen knives and tried slitting his throat. There was blood splattered across the wall and on the bed. We believe he then probably crawled up two floors to the terrace and jumped off."
The officer said the FSL team's theory had been recorded. "It doesn't seem plausible for someone to drag himself up after losing so much blood," he said.
Rai's flat mates, all CA students, were questioned by police. One of the friends reportedly informed police that a few days ago, Rai had told him that he feared he wouldn't do well in his CA entrance exam scheduled for November.(Indian Express)
