Employment increases by over 3% in quarter ending Sep

Employment in the country has increased by over three per cent in the quarter ending September. According to the twelfth quick employment survey of the Labour and Employment Ministry, job generation has increased in respect of all sectors except Leather and Transport where there was a marginal fall. At the sectoral level, the maximum increase of over two lakh jobs was in the IT and BPO sector followed by Textiles including Apparels, Metals, Automobiles, Handloom and Power loom and Gems and Jewellery.
AIR correspondent reports that the Ministry of Labour and Employment has been continuously monitoring the effect of global financial crisis and economic slowdown in the country, since September 2008. In the twelfth quick employment survey, the information has been collected from 2,215 units and establishments by covering 21 centres spread across eleven states and Union Territories.
