Such mismatch can arise because of inaccurate or delayed reporting of TDS by the deductors, including the employers.
“To swiftly and accurately resolve such grievances, the CBDThas issued a comprehensive Circular ....,”stated the finance ministry.
The circular explains various steps taxpayers need to take to view and submit their responses with regard to their outstanding tax demand, it added.
Taxpayers may view their outstanding tax demand on their e-filing account at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and follow the steps elucidated in the circular to submit their response either agreeing with or disputing the demand.
About 95 per cent of entries involve demands up to Rs 1 lakh and about 90 per cent of such assessees are individuals and HUFs. (Business Standard)
