The cyber police station in BKC has registered a case and a probe is on to identify and trace the accused.
Police sources said an FIR was registered on behalf of the actor by her chartered accountant Prakash Thakkar. Sources said Thakkar approached the BKC police station on Friday and told them someone used Kareena’s pan card number and password to file her income tax returns on the government website.
The cyber police are in the process of finding out how the imposter got access to these details.
An FIR (CR No. 141/16) has been registered under section 419 (cheating by impersonation) of the Indian Penal Code read with 66 and 66 C of the Information Technology Act which deals with identity theft i.e. use of computer dishonestly, fraudulently and making use of electronic signature, password or any other unique identification feature of any other person.
The imposter is said to have hacked into her account in August and illegally uploaded the false income tax return for 2015-2016. When she went to file her income tax return for this year, she learnt that it has already been filed following which her CA Thakkar approached the Cyber police station with a written complaint based on which a FIR was registered.
The Cyber police said they will first find out who and from where the government website was accessed by the imposter. Also, the police sources said they will find out if anyone known to the actress leaked her password and pan number. #casansaar (PTI - Hindustan Times)
