"The court found both the accused guilty and convicted them under Section 7 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of an official act) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code on May 20," the CBI said in a statement.
The CBI registered a case on December 29, 2010, on the allegations that Gurjar in criminal conspiracy with Baljeet Singh was demanding a bribe of Rs.5 lakh from a partner of a private firm based at Naya Bazar, Delhi, in lieu of finalising the assessment case of his firm without any hurdle.
A trap was laid and both the accused were caught while accepting Rs.2 lakh in cash from the complainant as part payment of bribe money on December 29, 2010.
Consequent to investigation, a charge sheet was filed on December 30, 2011.
During trial, the prosecution examined 23 witnesses. (IANS - Zee)
