really nice question.
I had also doubt on this issue later on CA S B Zaware sir clarified it. Unabsorbed depreciation cannot be adjusted against salary income

12-Dec-2012 , 12:44:08 pmyes the unabsorbed depreciation can be set of from any head (i.e. salary also) and it can be set-off even tough the return has been filed belated.
