NELSON MANDELA : THE HERO OF HEROS
-By CA Vijeta Verma
27years in jail, infinite criticism but the man fought against all odds “Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela(18th july 1918 -5december 2013)”.A common man who raised his voice for justice & humanity ,suffered a lot but created a golden history and an unforgettable end.Never did he know that the fight for black Africans would land him as first black president of South Africa, first black chief executive and many other first positions to his credit. He wasn’t that resourceful to afford a luxurious life but went beyond limitations, beyond fears to change the life of millions of blacks all over the world.
What made him different from the crowd of millions sufferers ?Was he naturally gifted with administrative ,revolutionary, political and philanthropic abilities and everything else required to win one of the toughest fight of the world? Was independence served to him on a free platter? Was more than 250 awards including bharat ratna gifted to him at zero cost? The answer is “Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.” - Thomas Jefferson
Nelson Mandela fought against the whole world to see the changes he wanted to see.Yes!It was a one man’s fight ,no doubt later on supported by millions. The point here worthy of being noted is if a common man like him fight can change whole nation, then can’t we all change our thought patterns and remove the barriers of caste, creed, gender, religious? Can’t we all fight against the upheavals created by politics, corruptions ,crimes, communalism & other infinite disasters?
We say ,we live in free country & we all celebrate Independence day ,republic daily on year to year basis. But it is also equally true that we all read on daily basis infinite cases of corporate, political scandals, crimes ,corruption, honour killings etc.Leaders we choose are more busy in fighting for power, food we eat is to some or large extent adulterated, price rise is on the verge of killing an ordinary man, security of old people, females or any less resourceful person is better to be written on papers as a constitutional right only, increasing forgery ,murder, robbery ,corruption cases seems to have challenged all the laws, all the civil & administrative arrangements, all police force.Getting/providing a good education is one of the major challenge faced by parents, students & anyone who wants to improve his/her skills ,as cost of bank loan is too high to be easily afforded by all, fees of reputed colleges/schools/coachings shows that education business has become very competitive these days.
Probably ,India is in immediate need of millions of Nelson Mandelas to be really called a free country.
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”-Nelson Mandela
