Purpose of Right To Information (RTI) Act 2005
The main objective of this Act is to bring Transparency in the Government system and to control Corruption in Govt. controlled bodies.
According to this Act, any information which is accessible to MP&MLA, the same can be accessible to the citizen of this country by using this Act.
Only an Indian Citizen can take the advantage of this Act, not a NRI. A Company, Union, etc cannot use RTI but its employee or a person in its individual capacity can apply it.
Every Government running Corp. needs to appoint PIO (Public Information Officer) so as to provide the requested Information by the applicant.
Information can be requested by the applicant for the Retention period (i.e. the time period for which the govt. dept need to keep their records).
APPLICABILITY OF THIS ACT COVERED/NOT COVERED
1. President, Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, MP,MLA,Intelligence Agencies that info which may threaten country’s security if disclosed to public.
2. Govt. Hospitals,PSU, Govt. Telecom Cos.,Army,Police Commissioners.Information regarding Country’s deal with other Countries
3. Election Commission, All Courts, All Govt. Offices,Third Party i.e. private organizations

PIO (Public information officer) of the Related Government Department.
How to Apply
The Application can be written on a Plain Sheet addressing it to the related PIO. Information regarding PIO of Delhi can be explored from www.delhigovt.nic.in/rti
The applicant can file RTI Application in any Big Post office with a nominal fees of Rs.10
Fees can be paid through cash DD or Postal order.(Below poverty line Citizen can file the application for free)
The application should not be confusing, the questions asked should be Precise & accurate.
Any language can be used. There is no need to give any personal reasons for the RTI ,the applicant just need to mention his/her name and address & providing Contact No. is optional.
Deadline for providing the information
Time by which the information is to be provided is 30 days.
