Two more banks under CBI scanner in loan scam
After the suspension of Syndicate Bank CMD S.K. Jain, top functionaries of two more public sector banks have come under the CBI scanner for suspected irregularities in the extension of credit facilities to private companies.
The CBI has instituted two preliminary enquiries to ascertain whether there were any irregularities in the grant of loans by the UCO Bank and the Bank of Maharashtra, facilitated by Chartered Accountant Pawan Kumar Bansal who was recently arrested in the Syndicate Bank bribery case.
Mr. Bansal, who runs a loan arranging firm named Altius Finserve Private Limited, and his associates who were involved in the facilitating the loans through the other two banks are also being probed.
According to a senior CBI officer, the agency would seek all the relevant documents from the two banks on the basis of which the companies in question, through alleged mediation by Mr. Bansal, had applied for loans. (The Hindu)
