A K Jain To Be Acting Chairman Of CBDT
Senior IRS officer A K Jain was today appointed acting Chairman of the CBDT following the retirement of its Chairperson Anita Kapur.
Jain, a 1978 batch Indian Revenue Services Officer, will be holding additional charge as chairperson of Central Board of Direct Taxes, the apex policy making body of the Income Tax department. He is at present Member (Personnel and Vigilance) of CBDT, official sources said.
Meanwhile, Kapur, who retired today, has been appointed an adviser on tax reforms in the Finance Ministry for six months.
The official order for her post-retirement appointment was also issued today.
She will be contributing to the Ministry’s efforts for creating better taxpayer services, bringing in an improved direct taxes regime and also help in preparing the Union Budget for the next fiscal.
Apart from its Chairman, CBDT has six members and is the supreme body for framing policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and the Income Tax Department. PTI
