Govt creates Ministry of Co-operation for strengthening of cooperatives
The Union Government has created a separate Ministry of Co-operation for realizing the vision of 'Sahkar se Samriddhi'. This Ministry will provide a separate administrative, legal and policy framework for strengthening the cooperative movement in the country. It will help deepen co-operatives as a true people based movement reaching upto the grassroots. AIR correspondent reports that in the country, a co-operative based economic development model is very relevant where each member works with a spirit of responsibility.
The new Ministry will work to streamline processes for Ease of Doing Business for co-operatives and enable development of Multi-State Co-operatives. The Central Government has signaled its deep commitment to community-based developmental partnership. The creation of a separate Ministry for Co-operation also fulfils the budget announcement made by the Finance Minister.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating a separate Ministry of Cooperation. In a tweet, Mr Shah said, with this visionary decision of Mr Modi, a new dawn of prosperity will come in agriculture and rural sector. He said, for the last seven years, the Modi Government is continuously working for the welfare of the villages, poor and farmers of the country. Mr Shah expressed confidence that the historic decision will empower the cooperative sector and its people and will take India's cooperative sector to new heights.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, the creation of the Ministry of Cooperation will give emphasis to the development in the agriculture sector and will prove to be very effective from the point of view of farmers' welfare.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, the historic decision will help in deepening Co-operatives as a true people-based movement reaching upto the grassroots.
