According to NitiCentral, several Congress leaders like Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Salman Khurshid, Sachin Pilot, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Capt Amrinder Singh and Karti Chidambaram have multiple Director Identification Numbers (DIN), an offence under the Companies Act.
They say, "All are equal, but some are more equal than others", which applies to politicians. According to a report from NitiCentral.com, several Congress leaders like Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Minister for External Affairs Salman Khurshid, Minister for Corporate Affairs Sachin Pilot as well as party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Capt Amrinder Singh, former chief minister of Punjab, Motilal Vora and Karti Chidambaram, were found holding multiple director identification numbers (DINs).

What is shocking in this matter is both Khurshid and Pilot were in-charge of the ministries that were supposed to keep an eye on issuance of multiple DINs and bring the offenders to the book.
Priyanka, the daughter of Congress president Sonia Gandhi was found holding three DINs (01038703, 01840144 and 0291439), a punishable offence, but was let off by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) by paying a fine. Her mother-in-law Mauree Vadra was also found holding two DINs, 01840680 and 01839769, says the report from NitiCentral.com.
For the similar offence, according to the Companies Act, there is a punishment of imprisonment of six months and a fine of Rs.50,000.
The MCA, replying to a petition filed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr Subramanian Swamy, said, “As regards multiple DIN applications filed by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while the matter was under examination, Mrs Vadra through a letter admitted having made multiple DIN applications. Mrs Vadra has also stated that this happened due to mistakes which were unintentional. Since default under Sec 266C is compoundable under Sec 621A of the Companies Act 1956, Mrs Vadra has submitted applications for compounding of the said defaults under Sect 621A of the Companies Act, 1956 to the Registrar of Companies (RoC) concerned."
In a letter sent to Dr Swamy on 16th May, MCA secretary Naveed Masood, said, in case of multiple DIN applications submitted by Karti (Chidambaram), it is observed that the caseprima facie attracted provisions of Section 266A of the Companies Act. The regional director of MCA has asked Karti to explain, within 15 days, the multiple DIN applications filed by him.
In a statement, Dr Swamy said, "the commission of offence under Company law regarding multiple DIN has been committed by a very large number of people in the Congress. I have compiled a list of these persons and will be filing criminal case against all of them."
