FM expresses confidence about implementation of GST from next fiscal
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said that the government will go ahead with constitutional amendment for Goods and services tax, GST in the current session of Parliament as there is a broad consensus among states on the issue. Mr Jaitley was speaking to reporters after meeting Finance Ministers from 18 states to discuss the road-map for roll out of GST in New Delhi.
The Minister also expressed confidence about implementation of GST from April 1, 2016. He also said that Centre will resolve all the specific issues raised by the states government in the implementation of GST. Mr Jaitley said the government will create a nationwide unified market and remove trade barriers in the form of cascading effects of taxation.
The meeting assumes importance since this would be the first meeting of the Empowered Committee of state finance ministers with Mr Jaitley, after Kerala finance minister K M Mani assumed charge of the chairman of the empowered committee.
One of the main priorities of the government is to introduce the GST bill in the current session of Parliament. The government is working towards addressing all concerns from various parties as it would like to roll out GST from April 2016.
