GST Council meet today to take stock of implementation
Two weeks into the new levy, the Goods and Services Tax Council will meet on Monday to review its implementation.
“The 19th meeting of GST Council under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will be on Monday,” said the Finance Ministry.
However, this meeting will be held through video conferencing. The Council had last met on June 30 and had decided to hold its next meeting on August 5. But it decided to advance the meeting in order to review the roll out of the tax and take stock of any challenges that may have arisen for a State or sector.
Pending issues, such as the e-way bills, however, may not be taken up in this meeting, though States may discuss any issues relating to tax rates that may have come up. Over the last two weeks, the Centre and the States have been working to ensure a smooth implementation of GST.
Based on queries of officials and taxpayers, the Feedback and Action Rooms has also been releasing clarifications.
On Saturday, the Finance Ministry clarified that there was no change made in taxation of legal services under the GST regime.
“Legal services, which include representational services, provided by advocates are under reverse charge in the GST era,” it said. It also urged traders to register for GST without waiting for the July 30 deadline.
Further, it said that the margin scheme under GST can be availed by any registered person dealing in buying and selling of second-hand goods.#casansaar (Source - PTI, The Hindu)
