Maharashtra, Haryana ratify GST Constitutional Amendment Bill
Maharashtra Legislature has ratified the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Constitutional Amendment Bill. The proposal was unanimously passed by both the houses at a special one-day session held in Mumbai today.
Earlier today, Maharashtra Finance Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar presented the Bill in state assembly while Deepak Kesarkar tabled the bill in council. In the assembly, Mr. Mungantiwar said GST aims to ‘Make India One’, adding that the Implementation of GST will do away with 17 various taxes being levied presently.
In his reply, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis assured that all Municipal Corporations, including Mumbai will get their proper share of revenue and interest of local bodies will be protected. Stating that GST will lead to more integration between states, Mr. Fadnavis added that GST will provide level playing field for all and it will also end tax evasion.
