More CAs needed for Banks and Cooperatives- ICAI
An action plan has been prepared to extend the services of Chartered Accountants (CA) to banks and cooperatives in a big way, and the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is holding talks with heads of various banks in the southern States in this regard.
The SIRC has also planned to approach cooperative societies in Tamil Nadu to ask them to enlist the services of more CAs.
D.Prasanna Kumar, Chairman, SIRC, disclosed the details while speaking at the inauguration of the first Tamil Nadu Sub-Regional Conference of the Council – Sangamam 2013 – here on Saturday, which was attended by the CAs from across the State and Puducherry.
“The CAs also have to do auditing in cooperative sector. We are planning to meet the Registrar of Cooperatives of Tamil Nadu and present our case for proper auditing in cooperatives. Since the Cooperation Minister (Sellur K.Raju) too is from Madurai, we can pursue it further,” he said.
The SIRC chief said the CAs would help streamline accounting, maintenance of finances and governance in cooperatives. “Similarly, if banks have more external auditors, it will help them meet deadlines. We will meet the heads of banks and say that our team is ready to hand-hold banking sector,” he pointed out. Mr.Prasanna Kumar said sub-regional conferences were being organised in four southern States.
P.V.Raja Rajeswaran, conference coordinator, said four technical sessions were organised to discuss tax audit, survey/search and seizure, domestic transfer pricing and direct taxes. V.Murali, central council member of the ICAI, released the conference souvenir, and spoke about CA curriculum. Students who performed well in examinations were felicitated. (The Hindu)
