Income tax dept creates world record with filing of 49 lakh ITRs in one day
Income Tax department today said it created a sort of world record by achieving a record Income Tax Return filing in a single day.
"The department made a history with an all time high record of 49 lakh 29 thousand ITRs filed in a single day on August 31," Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in a statement releasing the data on e-filing of ITRs.
It said that as many as 1.5 crore ITRs were filed in the last five days of August. The department said that the peak filing rate per second was at 196 ITRs, filing rate per minute was at 7447 ITRs while it was at 3,87,571 per hour on August 31.
It also said that the department thwarted over 2,205 malicious attacks on the website aimed at disrupting services in the peak period.
CBDT also stated that there has been 4 percent rise in the total ITR filings this year. A total of 5.65 crore ITRs were filed till August 31, the last date of filing returns in comparison to 5.42 crore ITR filed previous year. However, last year, the number of ITR filings had registered an eight-fold jump 5.42 crore, 71 percent rise in comparison to preceding year numbers. #casansaar (Source - PTI, Economic Times)
