CBI arrest income tax official on bribe charge in Jalandhar
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Income Tax Officer, (W) IV-(1), BL Uppal, for accepting a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from a complainant. Sources said that the CBI laid a trap and caught the accused ITO Uppal red-handed. An advocate, Aakash Gupta, had complained to the CBI.
More than eight CBI officials reached the local income tax office at around 11 am and whisked away the accused at 7 in the evening, after interrogating him for around eight hours.
The CBI team has also taken hard disk of computer used by Uppal and other documents into its own custody.
Speaking with HT, Uppal refuted the allegations of accepting any bribe. He maintained that the money he accepted was fee for work he had done for the advocate. He claimed to have been trapped in a false case.
CBI sleuths from Chandigarh did not comment. (Hindustan Times)
