Income Tax Deputy Commissioner, 2 others arrested in Rs 3 crore bribery case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai and his two accomplices in an alleged bribery of Rs three crore.
The I-T Deputy Commissioner was picked up from the Aaykar Bhawan in Churchgate on Friday evening after arrest of one of his accomplices.
A case was registered against the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, Mumbai on the allegations of demanding an illegal gratification amounting to Rs.3 crore from the complainant for showing undue favour in his tax assessment.
It was further alleged that in furtherance, the accomplices of said Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax were to arrange gold in exchange of the money sent by the complainant.
One of the accomplices was caught red-handed while accepting the alleged gratification of Rs. 3 crore by through two cheques.
The other accomplice and the public servant were also arrested. Searches are being conducted at three locations in Mumbai. The residences of the accused were also searched.
The accused IRS service officer has been identified as Deputy Commissioner of I-T, Jaipal Swamy while his accomplices have been identified Kamlesh Shah and Prathamesh Mardekar.
The arrested accused will be produced before the competent court in Mumbai on Saturday. #casansaar (Source - IndiaToday)
