Listen to this Article
The due date for filing income tax returns is almost upon us. And for those who have not yet filed their returns yet, they may be tempted to download mobile applications and finish the job on their handheld devices. Thursday is the due date to file tax returns.
But wait! The Income Tax Department has issued a notification on their website, warning tax filers of such mobile apps.
"There are mobile applications which are not approved by the Income Tax Department. Users are advised that they may not be according to department data structure," the Income Tax Department has said.
So you would do well to stay away from such apps, and instead just go to the tax department's website to finish the job.
"Filers using them (mobile apps) are doing at their own risk," the taxmen have warned the public in its notice.
While we did not find any income tax filing app on iPhone, BlackBerry or Windows devices, Android (google) phones had an option of downloading a tax filing app called- 'Income tax eFiling' app by By MGovernance Team. Almost all mobile platforms however, had a tax calculator app.
"This mobile application has been developed to promote mGovernance and allow citizen to submit return/ refund on the go," the apps' description reads.
In the last few years, the tax department has constantly alerted the public that taxmen never ask for detailed personal information of taxpayers through e-mail or any other mode of communication on the internet. (NDTV)
