Stop collecting service tax from pilgrims in Bodh Gaya: HC
The Patna high court on Wednesday directed the government to stop collecting service tax from pilgrims at Bodh Gaya.
A division bench of Chief Justice L Narasimha Reddy and Justice Vikas Jain, while hearing a PIL, also ordered constitution of a committee under the supervision of Bihar State Board of Religious Trusts to manage the Vishnupad Mandir affairs and Pitri Paksha Mela in Gaya.
The PIL, filed by one Mani Lal Bari, said service tax was being collected from vehicles carrying pilgrims to religious ceremonies and functions held at Bodh Gaya on the orders of the Gaya DM.
VKSU VC and Bhojpur SP summoned: A single bench of the Patna high court presided by Justice Chakardhari Saran Singh on Wednesday directed the Ara-headquartered Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU) VC and Bhojpur SP to appear in the court in person on March 18 in connection with alleged irregularities in selection of principal for different constituent colleges.
A writ petition was filed by one Amit Kumar Choudhay, alleging flaws in the selection process. Earlier when the court had asked for the selection committee records, the VC had stated the records were lost. The court had then directed the VC to lodge an FIR and asked police to look into the matter. Instead of lodging an FIR, however, police made a 'sanha' entry.
