The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) plans to send a representation letter to the University of Mumbai requesting it to postpone the examination dates for LLB students. The May 26 LLB exam clashes with the CA final paper conducted by ICAI.
Environmental law, the last paper of students from LLB semester II in the three-year course and semester VI in the five-year course, is scheduled on May 26, also the day when the first paper for CA finals Group I will be conducted.
Students aspiring to be CAs and who are in the process of acquiring a law degree will have to skip one of the exams."A re-exam in CA is possible only in accidental situations, but not for something known to students much in advance," an ICAI member said. "Since it's a national exam, we will not be able to reschedule it. For the university, it will be a local exam and, therefore, it can reschedule it."
The member said ICAI will write to the university requesting it to reschedule the dates.
Usually around 10% of students who give CA exams are from a law background.
University controller of exams Padma Deshmukh had said it would be difficult to postpone the LLB exams as already many exams had been rescheduled because of the LS poll. (Times of India)
