A new curriculum for chartered accountancy course will become a reality by 2016.
It would be a modern and global curriculum to meet the changing industry expectations, K. Raghu, president of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), said here on Tuesday.
In a media interaction on his visit to the city, the ICAI chief pointed out that the council had approved the draft of the new curriculum prepared by the Committee on Review of Education and Training.
It would be uploaded on the ICAI’s website for feedback from members and the public.
Stating that the demand for chartered accountants was growing within the country and abroad, Mr. Raghu said the pay packets had also gone up.
The highest salary offered for a job within the country in the campus placement held from August to October was Rs. 17 lakh a year while it was Rs. 24 lakh for an overseas posting.
The ICAI president said the pass percentage in the CA examination continued to be low. It was only 7.2 per cent in the examination conducted recently.
Mr. Raghu said the ICAI had activated the independent directors’ repository (http://independentdirector.in) as per the new company law to help individuals, who were eligible and willing to act as independent directors in companies.
The ICAI had also launched a digital library to provide online resources subscribed by the council to its members and assist them in higher education and professional development, he added. (The Hindu)
