Govt seeks applications for post of CCI member

The government has invited applications for the post of a member at the Competition Commission of India (CCI), the regulator that keeps a tab on anti-competitive practices in the market. 

The post would be filled up by direct recruitment and government officials, if chosen, would have to seek retirement from the existing service before taking up the responsibility.

A member of the CCI, which comes under the Corporate Affairs Ministry, would hold the office for five years and can't continue beyond 65 years of age, whichever is earlier.

"Keeping in view the role and importance of CCI as a regulator, it is desirable that the applications from the
persons with high integrity, eminence and reputation with requisite experience are forwarded for consideration," the Ministry said in a communication on October 19.

The chosen candidate should have at least 15 years of professional experience in international trade,  economics, business, commerce, law, finance, accountancy, management, industry, public affairs or competition matters, including competition law and policy.

According to the communication, the experience, in any of these fields, "in the opinion of the central government, may be useful to the Commission".

The member of the Commission would be paid a consolidated monthly salary of Rs. 3,12,500 rupees three lakh and are not entitled for a house or car.

The last date for submitting application is November 25.

"Candidates, who are already in government service, in case of their selection, will have to seek retirement from the government service before joining the post," it noted.

The fair trade regulator has six members, besides the chairperson.

Applications were invited last month for the post of secretary at the Commission.

Initially, the appointment would be made on deputation on foreign service basis for three years and the same could be extended up to five years.

As per the Ministry, preference for this post would be given to those at the level of additional secretary or
equivalent in the government.     

Separately, the Ministry last month had issued circular for filling up vacancies at the Competition Appellate  Tribunal on deputation basis.

There are 20 vacant positions including that of deputy registrar, senior principal private secretary, accounts
officer and court master. (PTI)
