Freight and carriage are synonymous terms. In accounting terminology, 'freight' is used by Americans whereas British use the word 'carriage'.

The word Carriage is predominantly used in cases when the goods were moved from one location to other location using a cart. However with modern automation in technology, more of commercial carriers are used to transport the goods. The freight word as mentioned above were part american. Hope this clarifies the doubt
