10 floors, 48 hrs; it is realty magic
The architectural novel stood tall on an industrial plot in the township with no sand or bricks used in the process. After two days of relentless effort by nearly 200 technicians, skilled workers and 25 engineers, the red and grey building has a become the centre of attraction.
Work on the building started on Thursday evening and seven floors were already in place in just one day.
Fortunately, there weren’t any goof-ups or casualties at the end of the exercise given the scale of speed and precision that went into bringing up this rare architectural feat. Only pre-fabricated structures have been used in the building.
Hundreds of tonnes of steel went into its sound foundation and structure of the building. One floor has been done up fully, water supply lines, power lines and sewage, even as final finishing is still underway but may not take much time before its all done, said sources.
The promoter of the building, Harpal Singh, who owns an infrastructure company and a five star hotel in Chandigarh among other business, said the idea behind this laborious exercise is to draw attention towards a much better, energy efficient and functional way of construction technology that enables builders, even owners, to generate revenue within days instead of waiting for months and years for the completion of the building.
Engineers involved in the project said pre-fabricated material that were used in the building was manufactured over the past about two months in a factory not faraway from the site of construction. Floors, water supply and wiring components all were prepared earlier and were fitted with the help of advanced heavy machinery well within the two-day deadline.
A senior official maintained that this will be the first building of its kind in the country and the model has been cleared for Zone V seismic area which denotes high risk area for earthquakes.
“The cost is almost the same as of conventional construction material but it saves a lot of time which means saving a lot of money, the official said.
Singh said the technology could revolutionise the whole infrastructure sector and speed up construction of commercial towers, luxury hotels, high-rise buildings, hospitals, educational institutions, universities and retail outlets.
