Law Ministry to ensure no case remains pending beyond three years: Moily
Union Law and Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily on Thursday said the law ministry in collaboration with the judiciary is working towards ensuring that no case remains pending beyond three years.
He said the ministry has been putting mechanism in place to ensure the same.
"We have now decided with the collaboration of the judiciary that no case should remain pending beyond three years and towards that end we have brought out 'Grameen Nyayalya' act. We have (also) come out with the legal mission programme," Moily told reporters here.
"We are going to have a drive for the disposal of the cases at every state and (an) alternative disposal system has also been strengthened and properly funded," he added.
On putting a stop to corruption in the judicial system, Moily said the 'Judicial Standards and Accountability Bill' is in place, which now waits for Parliament's approval.
"The government has already moved the judges standard and accountability bill, which is now pending with the Parliament and also before the standing committee. Once that bill comes, I think many of these questions or perception of corruption can be removed and no person to be appointed as judge can afford to become corrupt, or any judge can continue to be corrupt," he added.
The bill, if passed, will allow removal of judges in case of misconduct. The alleged judge can be warned and reprimanded, and in case of serious violations, will be impeached.
The Law Minister was here to inaugurate the foundation stone for Dadasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar University on the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's 120th birth anniversary.
