A 46-year-old employee of a Chartered Accountant was held with around Rs 1 crore, which he allegedly could not account for, in Grant Road area Tuesday evening. Police said the accused, Mohammad Islam Shaukat Ali Khan, was traveling in a BEST bus when it was stopped for a check at a nakabandi.

"The policemen found around Rs 1 crore in his bag, which he could not account for. We took him into custody and are questioning him," said Ajit Surve, senior inspector, D B Marg police.
Police have pegged the total amount Khan was carrying at Rs 99. 93 lakh and placed him under arrest. Khan, a resident of Worli, has been charged under Section 46 (1) of the CrPC.
"His employers had apparently instructed him to ferry the money to Marine Lines and disembark there. He has told us who his employers are, but no one has claimed the money," Nisar Tamboli, DCP, Zone 2. "We are verifying a few other claims he made."
"Khan has not been giving a consistent statement. He will be produced before a magistrate on Wednesday," said Krishna Prakash, Additional Commissioner of Police, South Region. (Indian Express)
