Bangalore to have office of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax
The Union government has sanctioned the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Bangalore with jurisdiction over all the I-T offices in Karnataka and Goa. This is to ensure effective monitoring of the functioning of the offices in the jurisdictional area and upscale I-T and TDS collections.
Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Hubli, P.K. Sharma told presspersons here on Friday that Karnataka and Goa were at present under the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Chennai.
The new Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax was expected to be posted in Bangalore before July-end, and at present, the Additional Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Chennai was holding the additional charge of Principal Chief Commissioner in Bangalore.
To a question, he said I-T offices in the district headquarters of Yadgir and Koppal, which were carved out of Gulbarga and Raichur districts, would be established at the earliest. The Gulbarga Commissionerate of Income Tax has submitted a proposal on this to the government.
Mr. Sharma said the Chief Commissioner’s office in Hubli, having jurisdiction over 14 districts in north Karnataka, was likely to emerge as the leading office in the collection of I-T for 2013-14. There had been general buoyancy in I-T collection throughout the country during 2013-14. While the average increase in I-T collection was 13 to 15 per cent over the target in the country, the Hubli office recorded a 42 per cent increase during 2013-14, he said.
The government had fixed the target of Rs. 820 crore for I-T collection and Rs. 1,150 crore for TDS for 2013-14 for the districts coming under the jurisdiction of the Hubli office. “We have exceeded the target by more than 42 per cent.” The exact figures of the I-T and TDS collections were being finalised, he said.
To a question, he said that for the Gulbarga Commissionerate, the initial target of Rs. 450 crore for I-T collection was revised to Rs. 550 crore. “The commissionerate had exceeded the revised target and achieved a collection of Rs. 580 crore.”
Earlier, Mr. Sharma inaugurated the Aayakar Seva Kendra on the Gulbarga Commissionerate premises. He said such a kendra had been established in Raichur and one would be inaugurated in Bellary next week. - CASANSAAR (The Hindu)
